About the Founders

When you study at the Game Audio Institute, you’re learning directly from two of the most respected names in the field.

Steve Horowitz is an award-winning composer and industry veteran who has worked at the cutting edge of music and sound for decades. After more than ten years teaching at the university level, he saw that traditional programs were overpriced and out of date. That’s why he co-founded GAI, to give students a place where creativity and technology meet, and where launching a career in game audio doesn’t mean breaking the bank.

Scott Looney is a pioneer in interactive audio education, having designed and taught game audio courses for schools like the Academy of Art University, UC Santa Cruz, and SF State. For over fifteen years, he’s helped students turn big ideas into practical skills, while also pushing forward new research in procedural and generative audio.

Together, Steve and Scott have written two of the most popular books on game audio, trained thousands of students, and built partnerships across the industry. At GAI, you’ll benefit from their experience, their connections, and their passion for helping the next generation of creators thrive.
